About One More Spoon

Real food for the road to parenthood

One More Spoon is a recipe collection for one specific journey: the months before conception, the nine months of pregnancy, and the first year after birth. Four hundred and thirty-two recipes, each one built around the nutrients that matter most at that exact stage, and each one written for two people, because this journey is rarely walked alone.

Why we built it

One More Spoon started when my wife and I wanted to eat well in good time, in case we decided to try for a baby, and I went looking for what that actually means day to day. What I found was scattered, often contradictory and rarely well-sourced, so I built something for those preconception months that we could actually use.

It grew from there into pregnancy and the first year after birth, because the questions don't stop at conception. Nutrition through pregnancy looks after the mother as much as the baby - if a diet runs short on something like calcium, her own body makes up the difference.

You will not find miracle foods or fear-mongering here, just meals that cover folate, choline, iron, DHA, calcium and the rest.

How the recipes are built

  • Nutrient-first design. Every recipe is tagged with the nutrients it genuinely delivers, and every phase highlights the nutrients that matter most in that window.
  • Food-safety by default. Pregnancy recipes follow standard public health guidance: fully cooked eggs, meat and fish, pasteurized dairy, low-mercury fish choices, and clear notes where habits should change between phases.
  • Both partners count. Preconception recipes are designed for egg and sperm quality alike because fertility is shared work, and food before pregnancy affects both sides.
  • Real-life friendly. Postpartum recipes are batch-friendly, freezer-ready and often one-handed, because newborn days rarely leave two hands free.
  • Every diet welcome. Vegan through omnivore, with allergy filters for the nine most common triggers.

Who is behind it

I'm not a doctor or a dietitian - I'm a web designer and developer of twelve-plus years. So the rules here are strict: every recipe is checked against CDC, FDA, ACOG, NHS, FSA and WHO guidance, every hard number links to its source, and where authorities disagree we follow the stricter one (see our sources & editorial standards).

We'll charge a small membership for the full library, with a generous free tier. Where it goes next depends on what people ask for - probably better photographs and more recipes, possibly further phases if that's what members want.
