Do lactation foods like oats and brewer's yeast really boost milk supply?
The trial evidence for specific galactagogue foods is thin. What reliably supports supply is frequent feeding, enough calories (roughly 330 to 500 extra a day depending on guidance), fluids and rest - and oat-based snacks deliver the calories and fiber either way.
Does what I eat change my breast milk?
Partly. DHA in milk tracks your fish intake within days, and vitamins like B12 and D reflect your stores. Two portions of low-mercury oily fish a week and a continued prenatal cover the gaps.
Do I need to avoid any foods while breastfeeding?
Very few. High-mercury fish limits still apply, alcohol is best timed right after a feed or skipped, and caffeine is fine under about 300 mg a day. Most babies are untroubled by garlic, spice and the rest.
