Vegan Fertility Recipes
Vegan eating works in the preconception window, but it requires a bit of planning. B12 needs a supplement or reliably fortified foods, iodine is harder without dairy or fish, and iron and zinc need pairing and repetition rather than single big hits. These recipes are built with that in mind, leaning on pulses, tofu, whole grains, nuts and seeds.

Can you conceive on a vegan diet?
Yes. There is no evidence that a well-planned vegan diet makes conception harder, and plant-forward eating is generally viewed favourably in this window. What matters is the planning: B12, iodine, iron, zinc and omega-3 all need deliberate sourcing when animal foods are off the table.
Which supplements should a vegan consider before conceiving?
Folic acid is advised for everyone trying to conceive, and B12 is effectively non-negotiable on a vegan diet since reliable food sources are fortified products only. Vitamin D is advised widely in the UK. Iodine and omega-3 are worth discussing with your doctor or a dietitian, who can look at what you actually eat rather than guess.
Where does iodine come from on a vegan diet?
Reliable sources are mainly non-vegan, like dairy, white fish and eggs. Seaweed is a genuine plant source but the amount varies enormously between products, and iodine is a nutrient where too much is as unhelpful as too little. Some fortified plant milks contain it, though many do not, so it's worth reading labels and raising the question with a dietitian.
