Zucchini Bread Oatmeal (Zucchini Bread Oats) Oatmeal that borrows zucchini bread's playbook - grated zucchini, cinnamon, walnuts and maple - and gets a vegetable in before 9 am. Common questions
Is a vegetarian diet safe in pregnancy?
Yes, and it's common. The nutrients that need attention are iron, B12, iodine and omega-3, because they are easiest to get from meat and fish. Pairing plant iron with vitamin C in the same meal helps considerably.
Which cheeses are safe if I am vegetarian and pregnant?
Hard cheeses are fine, and so are pasteurized soft cheeses without a white surface mold, like cottage cheese, cream cheese, mozzarella, feta, paneer, ricotta, mascarpone and halloumi. That list is broader than most people expect. Just make sure to cook mold-ripened and blue cheeses until steaming hot rather than eat them cold.
Do I need more protein as a vegetarian in pregnancy?
Needs rise modestly in the second and third trimesters, and a varied vegetarian diet with pulses, dairy, eggs, nuts, seeds and whole grains generally covers it. Appetite is a reasonable guide. If nausea is keeping you from eating much at all, speak to your doctor or dietitian.
