Zinc-Rich Recipes
Zinc is involved in sperm production and central to sperm structure, which makes it first and foremost a preconception nutrient - specifically for the male half of the equation.
- Preconception, for him: sperm take about 74 days to mature, so a roughly three-month run of eating differently is a realistic horizon. Zinc-rich food is studied for sperm quality; trials of zinc-containing supplements are a different matter - the Cochrane review rates that evidence as low to very low certainty - so we keep the framing to food and skip the promises.

Does zinc really matter for male fertility?
Yes - zinc is concentrated in seminal fluid and central to sperm production, and low zinc status is associated with lower sperm quality. Food sources (meat, shellfish, seeds) are the reliable route; megadose supplements are not better.
What are the best food sources of zinc?
Oysters top the chart by far, followed by beef, shrimp, turkey, pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds. Plant zinc absorbs less efficiently, so vegetarians benefit from eating these regularly.
Does zinc matter for male fertility too?
Yes - zinc is studied for its role in sperm production and quality, which is why these recipes are written for both partners. Nuts, seeds, beef, eggs and legumes are everyday sources; supplements are worth discussing with a doctor first.
