How long before trying to conceive should we change our diet?
About three months for both partners. Eggs mature and sperm is produced over roughly a 90 day cycle, so what you eat now shapes the cells involved in conception a season from now. Longer is a bonus, three months is the meaningful window.
Do fertility foods matter for men too?
Yes. Zinc, selenium, omega-3 and antioxidants are consistently linked to sperm count, motility and DNA quality. That is why every recipe here serves two.
Should I still take a supplement?
Yes. A daily prenatal with at least 400 micrograms of folic acid, ideally started three months before trying, is standard advice. Food supports it but does not replace it.
Does caffeine affect fertility?
Moderate caffeine (a coffee or two a day) has not been shown to harm fertility. Heavy intake is where studies raise flags, so a practical line is under 200 mg a day for her and moderation for him.
This is general information, not medical advice - always check with your doctor or midwife. See our sources and standards.
