Apple Nachos with Peanut Butter Drizzle

Crisp apple slices fanned out under warm peanut butter, dark chocolate and toasted seeds - a shareable plate that feels like dessert.

A plate to set between two people rather than a portion to measure out, ready in the time it takes to warm a spoonful of peanut butter. While you are trying to conceive, the snacks both of you actually reach for do more quiet work than the perfect ones nobody eats - this one covers the sweet tooth honestly.

Method

  1. Fan. Arrange the apple slices on a large plate in overlapping circles, like fallen dominoes, working from the rim toward the center until the plate is covered in a single crisp layer.
  2. Warm. Spoon the peanut butter into a small microwave-safe bowl and heat it in 10 to 15 second bursts, stirring between each, until it is loose enough to pour off the spoon in ribbons. Stovetop: warm it in a small pan over low heat, stirring, for about a minute.
  3. Drizzle. Zigzag the warm peanut butter over the apples, then follow with the melted dark chocolate in thinner lines. Do not aim for neat; the criss-cross look is the whole charm here.
  4. Scatter. Scatter the toasted pumpkin seeds and shredded coconut over the top while the drizzle is still sticky, then dust with the cinnamon. Serve right away, before the apples brown.
Worth knowingApples bring the fiber, peanut butter brings staying power - the chocolate is there because snacks should be liked.

Is this safe when trying to conceive?

Yes - nothing on this plate is restricted while trying to conceive, for either partner. The one myth worth retiring here: peanut avoidance around conception and pregnancy is outdated advice, and NHS guidance on foods to avoid is clear that peanuts are fine unless you are allergic to them yourself. The rest is fruit, seeds and chocolate.

Substitutions & allergens

  • Sunflower seed butter drizzles the same way - removes peanuts without bringing tree nuts in.
  • Almond or cashew butter also works - removes peanuts but adds tree nuts, so it depends which allergy is in the house.
  • The gluten tag here rides on chocolate brands that may contain it - a certified gluten-free dark chocolate clears it.
  • Extra pumpkin seeds or a heavier pinch of cinnamon stand in for the desiccated coconut.

Storage & reheating

This plate does not store: cut apples brown and soften fast, so fan out only what will be eaten in the sitting, and halve the quantities rather than plan for leftovers. A squeeze of lemon over the slices slows the browning if the plate has to wait a little. The toppings are cupboard things - there is nothing here to refrigerate or reheat.
